UNESCO launched the photo contest entitled “Youth Eyes on the Silk Roads”. It aims to raise the awareness of the youth and their knowledge of the common cultural heritage of the Silk Roads to encourage them to take artistic photos illustrating this common heritage.

On 21 February, UNESCO celebrates the International Mother Language Day. Since 1999, the involvement of the Organization in celebrating this Day emphasizes the importance of preserving linguistic diversity and promoting mother tongue-based education.

From 7^th to 9^th February of 2018, various events were held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University to celebrate the 100^th anniversary of the establishment of the University. On February 8, the ceremonial part of the events was attended by delegations of leading Universities and International Organizations from around 50 countries, as well as executive and legislative officials of Georgia.

On the initiative of its sector of Social and Human Sciences, UNESCO published a new book entitled "Writing Peace" which offers an introduction to the study of the world's scripts and alphabets. > > >

A conference entitled "Common Heritage for Intercultural Dialogue and Development" organized in the frame of the 200th anniversary of the German settlements in Georgia was held at the National Museum on 14-16 December 2017, with the support of the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO.
