Communication and Information

The support given to freedom of expression and free circulation of ideas by helping the development of free, independent and pluralistic media constitutes an important aspect of the mandate of UNESCO.

The efforts of the Organization in this domain lean on the Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which proclaims freedom of expression as an inalienable Human right.

In the fields of Communication and Information, UNESCO works essentially in two key directions: Freedom of the Media and Safety of Journalists. In this sense, the Organization supports independent and pluralistic journalism, based on ethics and professional standards.
