In October 7-11, 2011 UNESCO Museums Section mission visited Georgia to participate in the workshop organized in the framework of the project 'The Restoration and Revitalization of the Georgian State Museum of Vernacular Architecture and Ethnography: Phase III", elaborated jointly by the National Museum of Georgia and UNESCO.
One of the main objectives of the mission was to discuss already implemented as well as the future activities of the current project. During their visit, the representatives from UNESCO had a meeting with Ms. Ketevan Kandelaki, Secretary General of the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO.
On November the 10th, 2011, the 36th session of the General conference, which was held at UNESCO Headquarters form October 24 to November 10, was officially closed. The Georgian delegation, headed by the Minister of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, Mr. Nikoloz Rurua, participated in the event. The Head of the Georgian Delegation presented the National Statement at the plenary meeting of the General Conference. In the framework of the General Conference, Mr. Nikoloz Rurua held a meeting with the UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, Mr. Francesco Bandarin. During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of Georgia-UNESCO future co-operation in cultural sphere.
18th General Assembly of State Parties to the World Heritage Convention was held at UNESCO HQ on November 7-9. Georgian delegation headed by Mr. Nikoloz Vacheishvili, Director of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia, participated in the event.
During the General Assembly, the Georgian delegation held a working meeting with the UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, Mr. Francesco Bandarin, representatives of the World Heritage Center and ICOMOS.
The General Assembly elected nine new members to the World Heritage Committee: Algeria, Colombia, Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia, Qatar, Senegal and Serbia.
The World Heritage Committee, which is responsible for the implementation of the Convention, meets once a year and reviews requests by States Parties for inscription of new cultural and natural heritage sites on the World Heritage List as well as the state of conservation of sites already inscribed. Its next, 36th session will be held from June 24 to July 6, 2012.
In pursuance to the decision of the 31st session of the General Conference of UNESCO, World Science Day for Peace and Development is celebrated each year on November 10.
To celebrate the day, the session on the occasion of World Science Day for Peace and Development was held at the National Academy of Science of Georgia on November 11
On April 16, 2010 at the headquarters of UNESCO was held the session of the Approval Committee of the Fund for Elimination of Doping in Sport which examined the projects presented by the State Parties of the International Convention against Doping in Sport. The Committee agreed to provide funding of USD 19 850 to the project "Anti-doping education, prevention and information program in Georgia" submitted by Georgia. The project represents the number of activities such as the preparation and dissemination of the informational material on doping and the seminars for young athletes. The project will be implemented by the Georgian Anti-Doping Agency.
The Fund for Elimination of Doping in Sport was created to facilitate effective implementation of the Convention and to assist the State Parties in the fight against doping in sport. The International Convention against Doping in Sport entered into forc for Georgia on 1 February 2010.
