In March, 11-17, 2010 UNESCO/ICOMOS/ICCROM joint mission visited Georgia. The main purpose of the abovementioned visit was to asses the state of conservation of the Georgian World Heritage sites, Bagrati Cathedral, Gelati Monastery and the Historical Monuments of Mtskheta. UNESCO/ICOMOS/ICCROM experts had working meetings in the National Agency for Cultural Preservation of Georgia, Georgian Patriarchate and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the meeting was held under the supervision of the Vice-President of the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO. The WHC will prepare the evaluation report based on the mission' s results and submit it to the 34th session of the World Heritage Committee to be held in July-August, 2010 in Brasilia.

In February 15, 2010 the meeting of the Georgian National Commission was held under the chairmanship of Mr. David Jalagania, Vice-President of the Commission. The members of the commission selected 10 projects submitted in the frames of the UNESCO "Participation Programme". Selected projects were sent to UNESCO Headquarters for final consideration.

President of Georgia has sent the letter of congratulations to a newly elected Director-General of UNESCO

President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has sent the letter of congratulations to the newly elected Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Ms. Irina Bokova.

In his letter the President has underlined that Georgia attaches great significance to the aspirations of UNESCO towards peace, democracy, justice and human rights through culture, education, science and communication.

The President has also extended to Ms. Bokova the invitation to visit Georgia next year with the aim to review topical matters and find new avenues for cooperation between Georgia and UNESCO.
