In the frames of German-Georgian Year 2017, on the 25^th of March, 2017 the Tbilisi Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) hosted an event on the occasion of 200th anniversary of German settlements in the South Caucasus Region “Architecture-building bridges between people and times”.

The event was organized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit  GIZ (German Development Agency) and women architects’ and constructors’ network Women Build Caucasus (WBC) with support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Georgian National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Economic and Sustainable development of Georgia, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, Tbilisi City Hall, National Tourism Administration, Georgian National museum, Union of Architects.

The event envisaged two main activities: exhibition of archive materials of the houses built by the German emigrants in the German settlements in Georgia and Azerbaijan and Dialogue Forum – Sustainable Rehabilitation and Preservation of Historic Buildings and Infrastructure in the South Caucasus- the Example of German Settlements. Speakers from Germany, Georgia and Azerbaijan presented their topics regarding German legacy in architecture of Georgia and Azerbaijan, significance of its preservation and its potential in sustainable economic development of the countries. The Secretary General of the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO welcomed participants of the event underlining UNESCO’s leading role in promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue for better mutual understanding and peace.
