On 6 June 2014, the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO met in the presence of the Vice-President of the Commission, Mrs. Tamar Beruchashvili, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Secretariat presented a report on its activities in 2013. Particular attention was paid to the recent inclusion of the Ancient Georgian traditional Qvevri wine-making method on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, as well as on the election of Georgia as a member of the UNESCO Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict.

The Commission also discussed the evaluation procedure and criteria for the selection of projects under the Participation Program for 2014-2015. The Project selection process began on June 9, 2014 and was completed on July 9, 2014.

On 13 February 2012, the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO met in the presence of the Vice-President of the Commission, Mr. David Djalaghania, at the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The main objective of the session was to select the best candidate projects for UNESCO’s Participation Program for 2012-2013, with the aim of submitting them to the Secretariat of the Organization.

Among the projects presented, the members of the Commission selected 10 projects entitled:

1. “The 300th anniversary of the printing of the Knight with the Tiger Skin” (project administered by the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia);

2. “Declaration of Tbilisi + 35 – conference on environmental issues” (project administered by the non-governmental organization “NOLI.GE”);

3. “In the footsteps of forgotten technology – safeguarding Georgian medieval cloisonné enamel technique” (administered by the National Museum of Georgia);

4. “Abkhaz-Georgian Album” (project administered by the Tchoubinashvili Center for the History of Art);

5. Project of the National Commission;

6. “Creation of a Multimedia Library for the National Archives” (project administered by the National Archives of Georgia);

7. “Women of the past, an example for the future” (project administered by the Media Development Fund);

8. “The Jewish Cultural Heritage in the Collections of the National Museum of Georgia” (project administered by the National Museum of Georgia);

9. “Biodiversity and Sustainable Use of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Spices and Toxic Plants” (project administered by the Technical University of Georgia);

10. “Fight against the marginalization of the blind and ways for their integration into society” (project administered by the Non-Governmental Organization “Blind without Borders”).

The project proposals listed above were sent to UNESCO before 28 February 2012 for possible funding.

On 22 December 2011, the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chaired by the Vice-President of the Commission, Mr. David Djalaghania. The Commission took note of the report on its activities in 2011 submitted by the Secretariat. In addition, members of the Commission discussed projects to be submitted to UNESCO under the Participation Program for 2012-2013.

On 23 December 2010, the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chaired by the Vice-President of the Commission, Mr. David Djalaghania. Members of the Secretariat presented the report on the activities of the Commission in 2010. The Commission also examined projects financed by UNESCO in 2010 and the perspectives for future cooperation with the various funds of the Organization.

On 15 February 2010, the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO met in the presence of the Vice-President of the Commission, Mr. David Djalaghania, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Commission selected 10 projects to be submitted to UNESCO for final review and funding under the Participation Program.

On 4 December 2009, the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chaired by the Vice-President of the Commission, Mr. David Djalaghania. Discussions included the 35th session of the General Conference of UNESCO and the 17th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the 1972 Convention for the Protection and Promotion of Cultural Heritage (speakers: Ketevan Kandelaki, Petre Metreveli, Nikoloz Vacheishvili). The Commission also examined applications for projects for the Participation Program in 2008-2009, as well as conditions for the admission of projects for 2010-2011.

On 27 December 2006, the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO held its 2nd regular meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In his opening speech, the President of the Commission and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Gela Bejuashvili, stressed the need to intensify cooperation with UNESCO.

The meeting was attended by all members of the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO. The Secretary-General presented the report on the activities of the Commission for 2006.

The Commission discussed the perspectives for cooperation with UNESCO in 2007. It was agreed that in March 2007, the Georgian Delegation would visit the Organization’s headquarters in Paris in order to complete the preparation of the next General Conference.
